April 12: Prices in the Delhi chemical market showed a mixed tendency. Following tight money market conditions due to bank holidays, demand from local as well as upcountry buyers remained at a low ebb during the last week. Safolite dipped by Rs 1 at Rs 77 a kg on weak Mumbai advices coupled with slack demand from gur units and textile industries.Hydrogen peroxide eased by Re 1 at Rs 21 a kg due to downward revision in prices by the manufacturers. Acetic acid glacial slipped by 50 paise at Rs 26 a kg and camphor slab dipped by Rs 5 at Rs 140 a kg due to poor offtake.
Production of mentha oil in Punjab and Haryana is expected to go up and on liquidation of hoarded inventories by the stockists coupled with slack demand from the consuming industries, mentha oil, menthol flake, medium and bold ended the week with a loss of Rs 10/20 at Rs 310, Rs 435, Rs 465 and Rs 480 a kg respectively. Similarly, thymol plummeted by Rs 40 at Rs 400 a kg due to weak demand from exporters.
Press wax tumbled down by Rs 500at Rs 30,000 a tonne due to slack demand from consuming industries while residue wax and paraffin wax held steady at Rs 11,500 a tonne and Rs 1,700/1,725 per 50 kg respectively. As against this, caustic soda flakes recorded a gain of Rs 25 at Rs 625/650 per 50 kg amidst tight supply position coupled with good local demand.
Sodium sulphate flared up by Rs 100 at Rs 8,100/8,600 a tonne due to restricted supply. Citric acid China climbed down by Rs 50 at Rs 3,350 per 50 kg due to slack demand from consuming industries because of changing weather conditions. Demand in dyes and colours remained dull and no change was recorded in prices.
