Jaya building political bridges with visit to MDMK party off

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

CHENNAI, Nov 6: A relationship that was born out of political compulsions, was given a `new dimension' by the former chief minister and AIADMK (J) general secretary J Jayalalitha visiting the MDMK leader V Gopalsamy at `Thayagam', the MDMK party headquarters in the heart of Chennai on Wednesday.

The visit was marked with the usual hysteria and `fireworks', characteristic of any event involving Jayalalitha. The AIADMK (J) leader arrived at `Thayagam' at about 5 p.m. and left the place only at 6.45 p.m. To the dismay of commuters, Marshalls Road, where the MDMK headquarters was situated, was blocked for more than four hours by partymen.

According to the MDMK leader, the long discussions on ``the national political situation and the anti-people governance of Karunanidhi'', only proved their sincere efforts to `strengthen' the alliance formed a few months ago.

``By coming here, the bond has only strengthened further,'' a beaming Gopalsamy told reporters. ``We have a common goal and ideology,'' he gushed. And as for Jayalalitha, she was ``moved by the warm welcome'' and felt ``as if she was visiting her own party office,'' he said.

Later, Jayalalitha told reporters, who snatched a few words from her as she waved to an enthusiastic crowd from the terrace of the building, that she was only reciprocating the courtesy extended by Gopalsamy who had visited the AIADMK headquarters in July this year.

She disclosed that she had invited former TNCC president Vazhappadi Ramamurthy also for the party celebrations to be held in Tirunelveli.

``Everyone I invited will be coming,'' she remarked. Senior leaders of both parties were present during the talks.
