BJP begins homework on report; notes reference to Tamils, Sikhs
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, November 21: The Bharatiya Janata Party has adopted a wait-and-watch policy with leaders acknowledging today that political activity would intensify after Monday. For several senior party leaders, the problem of how to spend the hours before Monday has been solved. ``We have decided to spend the weekend ploughing through the Jain Commission's interim report so that we can prepare for the debate,'' BJP leader Jaswant Singh said. The BJP has taken strong exception to the Jain report's references to Tamils and Sikhs, describing the remarks as ``unwise and harmful''. ``It is shocking that the judicial commission should have made such an injudicious comment that questions the patriotism of an entire community,'' BJP general secretary Venkaiah Naidu said. The use of generalised religious identification of terrorists and extremists is injurious to national unity and integrity, Jaswant Singh added. The party's stand is also dictated by the fact that the Akali Dal is an ally and that the BJP views the DMK as a potential partner.
