MUMBAI, July 24: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Gopinath Munde today disclosed in the Legislative Council that sacked Shiv Sena minister Ganesh Naik had received a threatening letter stating that a Rs 20 lakh contract has been given to eliminate him.Making a statement in the Upper House, Munde, who also holds Home portfolio, said police were inquiring into the threat.
Naik is the third former Sena minister after Gulabrao Gawande and Suresh Navale to receive threats.
Munde assured the House that adequate security would be provided to Naik and Navale and a detailed inquiry would be made into incidents of alleged threats to them.
Navale was sacked from the ministry after he made a statement in the House that he was intimidated.
Munde said if it was proved that the security provided was being misused by some persons for intimidating others it would be withdrawn immediately. Two persons, who allegedly threatened Navale, have been arrested and remanded to police custody, Munde informed the UpperHouse.
The duo has been identified as Gajanan Shinde and Madhuka Gavand, he added.
Meanwhile, Sena Supremo Bal Thackeray is convinced that Justice B N Srikrishna has indicted him and his party for the communal riots that had rocked Mumbai in 1993 because he thinks the judge would have been ``naturally biased'' against his party.
Coming up with this stunner at a function to launch the Shiv Sena government's umpteenth housing scheme, Thackeray told reporters: ``He (Justice Srikrishna) has a biased mind because the State Government had wound up the Commission and it was revived following the Centre's directives. Naturally, he will not have taken kindly to it. The report has been written with a bias against the Sena,'' he said.
Without making it clear if he had read the report or was merely reading the judge's mind, he said he was not doubting the latter's integrity: ``It's just that it is human nature.'' Meaning it was natural that Justice Srikrishna would have been upset with the Sena.
Thackeray saidhe would not be surprised if Justice Srikrishna has recommended his prosecution. ``I don't care. Anyway he cannot hang me,'' he quipped.
He said he had not given any directions or suggestions to the government on how to deal with the report or while preparing the action taken report. Thackeray's comment comes at a time when there is intense speculation about when, if at all, the report would be published.
Justice Srikrishna submitted the findings of the one-man commission's report into the 1993 riots and blasts in January and the law requires the state government to make it public on or before August 15.
