Selection of World Cup probables postponed
MUMBAI:
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has postponed the selection of World Cup probables to a later date following a request from West Zone selector Ajit Wadekar. The probables were to be picked here on August 8 but Wadekar had scheduled his son's engagement on the same day hence the postponement, BCCI secretary JY Lele said here today.

The selected players will attend a camp in Chennai under the guidance of advisor Bobby Simpson of Australia. The teams for the Sahara Cup, Commonwealth and ICC Trophy will be selected from the probables.

Pakistan tour
MUMBAI:
The Indian and Pakistani Cricket Boards are all set to resume Test cricket but the final stamp on it will be put only after the outcome of SAARC meeting in Colombo next month.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jaywant Lele said here today that the Test and one-day programme of Pakistan's tour here early next year is ready but lot will depend on theoutcome of the talk between the heads of both the countries Nawaz Shariff and Atalbihari Vajpayee in Colombo.

Coaches course
VIJAYAWADA:
The Badminton Association of India (BAI) has nominated Andhra Pradesh coaches PU Bhaskar Babu and PNSS Prasad to undergo the Olympic Solidarity Course at Colombo from Aug 2-9.

Prasad is a Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) senior coach at Lal Bhadur Stadium, Hyderabad, while Bhaskar Babu is attached to NSTC scheme of Sports Authority of India (SAI) at Vijayawada.

Punjab in final
PONDICHERRY:
Punjab set up a title clash with last years runners up Border Security Force in the 47th BN Mullik Memorial All-India Police Football Championship edging out a fighting Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) by a solitary goal in the semifinals here this evening.Striker Kushwant Singh scored the all-important goal for Punjab in extra- time.

NEW DELHI:
Sports Authority of India are organising the second Independence Gold Cuphockey tournament for boys under 14 years of age. About 60 teams in the fray will play on a synthetic surface.

The winners will receive a purse of Rs 21,000, the runners-up will get Rs 11,000 and the best coach will be awarded Rs 5,000.

National Games
IMPHAL:
The Sports Movement Committee Manipur (SMCM), an organisation formed to promote sport activities, has urged the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president, Suresh Kalmadi to initiate steps for postponement of the Fifth National Games scheduled to be held in Manipur in October next.

In a letter to the IOA president yesterday, the SMCM secretary, RK Ranendrajit said the sports complex construction authorities were compromising the quality control by flouting the technical guidelines and norms to meet the deadline set by the IOA.
