NEW DELHI, July 24: The Minister of Railways has announced a cash award of Rs 1 lakh to those athletes from the Railways who won medals at the just-concluded 12th Asian Athletic Championship at Fukuoka (Japan).The Railway athletes won eight medals in individual events out of 10 medals.
In addition, in respect of 4x100 metres relay (women) new national record the Railways players would be entitled to separate cash award of Rs 25,000 each on ratification of the record by Amateur Athletics Federation of India.
The award winners are: Men: Gulab Chand: 5000m silver and 10,000m bronze; Shakti Singh: shot put bronze.
Women: P T Usha, Rachita Mistry, Saraswati Dey (4x100 relay gold); P T Usha, Rosa Kutty, J Sikdar (4x400 relay silver); Neelam J Singh (discus throw); P T Usha (200m bronze); P T Usha (400m bronze); Jotirmoyee Sikdar (1500m bronze).
