Citygritty -- Pune

Rasika and Supriya
Hard drive
All those Std X students who can't tear themselves away from the computer, and yet know they ought to be studying then, this package is for them. Floppies with the Std. X syllabus - the texts, solved question papers, extra study material - designed by Rupali Bhave, will hit the market on November 14.

Intended for those studying in both English and Marathi mediums, the preference is for the latter. Explains Bhave's assistant, ``We got the data fed in by phonetic typing, and then the file was converted so that it appeared on screen in the Devnagiri script. The idea is to give the student the entire package from text to application tests, so that he does not have to get up once he has logged in.'' The idea took root when Bhave was helping her daughter, a Std. V student, with her studies, and given the fascination school kids have for the computer, she thought it to be the best medium. Studies made fun, well almost.

All about alternatives
A reason enough for believers in alternative health systems to rejoice. The second Vishwa Vaidya Sammelan on Ayurveda and Medico Botany will be held at Fergusson College from October 26 to November 1. The conference has been organised by Vaidya Khadiwale Vaidyak Samshodan Samstha in association with Lovers of Plant Life, working in the fields of ayurveda, unani, botany, forestry, agriculture and related fields in Pune and the Pune metropolis area. A number of eminent practitioners are expected to speak at the conference and delegates from various fields will also participate.

The conference will address the problems facing the common man and discuss and suggest ways of improving the quality of life.

Pool's cool
Going by the number of Pool Bars in the city, Pune, it seems, is all set to become a Pool City. On October 21, Kabir's Restaurant, that quiet place on Moledina Road, had an inauguration of its pool bar, L's Pool. TV actor Shahabaz Khan, who shot into fame for his roles in Chandrakanta and The Sword of Tipu Sultan, and Geeta Bali, the model who featured in Jojo's music video, Woh Kaun Thi, were the guests of honour on the occasion. With so many bars pool-ing in, it sure seems like this is one trend that's right on cue!
