CHANDIGARH, Oct 22: Government Model High School, Sector 26 edged out Shivalik Public School, Sector 41, 28-24 to bag the title in the boys under-17 category in the Chandigarh state inter-school basketball tournament held at SPS-41 today.Both the teams were a balance side but it was GMHS-26, which delivered the goods at the right juncture to take home the trophy. GMHS-26 were leading by 18-12 at the break.
Sunil Yadav and Balraj Singh got 8 points each for the winners. Ravinder also contributed 5 points to the score.
Amandeep Singh and Gurinder Pal scored 10 and 8 points respectively for the losers.
DAV Public School-8 scored a one-point win 28-27 over St John's High School-26 to win third place in the meet.
In the girls section most of the encounters held proved to be one-sided affairs. Dev Samaj School-21 blanked Govt Girls Senior Secondary School-18, 24-0, in a lacklusture affair while Carmel Convent School-9 beat GGSS-8, 8-3, in another one-sided contest.
GMSSS-16 thrashed GGSSS-18 20-0 in the girls under-17 group. In other match Carmel Convent-9 beat Sacred Heart-26, 10-2. In the last match of the day GMHS-26 defeated Dev Samaj-21, 40-12.
