NEW DELHI, October 22: Asc (Bangalore) forward Ajay Kumar pumped in four goals in their 5-2 win over Children Academy (Bhopal) that helped the side qualify for the superleague of the 27th Junior Nehru hockey tournament at the National Stadium, here today.It was a see-saw battle in the first half as the Bhopal boys put up a good fight and were level 1-1 with their formidable rivals. But it was in the second session that Bangalore boys struck four more goals to demolish the Bhopal resistance.
Ajay scored the first goal in the seventh minute but two minutes later Akram Iqbal equalised for Bhopal. Ajay put ASC ahead in the 36th minute and then S.Rajnarayan made it 3-1 in the 41st minute. A minute later Ajay scored his third and team's fourth goal (4-1). Sohail Wahid reduced the margin for Bhopal in the 50th minute. Ajay completed his tally in the 56th minute (5-2).
In the first match of the day in Pool `C', Delhi's Government High School, Singhu outplayed lowly Kendriya Vidyalaya, Panchmarhi (MP) 4-0 after leading 1-0 at half time. Naveen (Sr) scored two goals while Sandeep and Sunil chipped in a goal each.
Fancied local team Union Academy thrashed Balkrishnan School, Kankroli (Rajasthan) 7-0 in Pool-A. The winners led 4-0 at lemon break. Raju (two), Ravinder, Vikram Singh, Ajay Kumar, Surender, Rajinder (one each) scored for Union Academy.
In Pool B, trailing 0-2 till the 15th minute, C.R.Z School, Sonepat, staged a fine rally and outclassed Sanjay Gandhi School, Gujarat 5-2. The winners led 3-2 at interval.
Sandeep, Satish, Deepak, Parveen and Harish (one each) scored for Sonepat school. Anil Kushwah scored both the goals for the losers.
